Education for Sustainable Futures

Our goal is clear:

"To create an organisation that has, at its heart, the willpower and waypower to educate for sustainable futures."

In a world facing the profound impacts of climate change, it is crucial that we provide our young people with the knowledge and agency to address these challenges. At The Charter Trust, our whole school community is deeply committed to this cause. While we are driven by a strong will to make a difference, we often need guidance on how to take actionable steps.

Our strategy, Education for Sustainable Futures, is built on three core pillars that guide us in nurturing the will to act and equipping students with the knowledge to take responsible action.

Fostering Agency & Willpower: Empowering Change-Makers

Our first pillar focuses on fostering agency—empowering our students to have the belief and hope they can make a difference.

By the time students leave us, we want them to understand that the will they have to shape their future can affect positive change.

This is about developing critical thinkers who question current norms and take responsibility for their actions to create positive environmental change.

Building Waypower through curriculum

The second pillar is building waypower - forging a meaningful path forwards rooted in the knowledge and actions that our curriculum brings.

We are dedicated to equipping young people with the tools they need to take sustainable actions in their everyday lives. From reducing waste to making sustainable choices, this pillar focuses on teaching students how to apply sustainability principles in tangible ways.

Building Better Futures: A Commitment to Sustainability

Our third pillar is all about building better futures. Where sustainability is at the heart of everything we do across the wider estate.

This is about raising awareness, creating a sense of urgency, and instilling a deep-rooted commitment to taking action.

Our school community—students, staff, and families—are united in their passion for sustainability and the future of our planet.
