Biographies

SUE BOWLER - MEMBER
 

Sue is the joint Director of Integrated Care at Guy’s and St Thomas's NHS Foundation Trust, with responsibility for adult community health services across Lambeth and Southwark. Sue is skilled in partnership working, managing and engaging stakeholders, project and performance management in the public sector.

ELIZABETH BROWN - MEMBER 

Elizabeth is a local resident who has been involved with The Trust since 2001 when the first of four children to attend started at The Charter School North Dulwich, one year after the school opened. From 2007, the year before the school converted to academy status, Elizabeth was vice-chair and then  became the Chair of the Local Governing Body and a Trustee in 2011. She became a Member of the Trust when it became a MAT in 2016.

Elizabeth was instrumental in the campaign to open a new Free School, The Charter School East Dulwich. 

MARION GIBBS CBE - MEMBER
 

A former HMI, Marion is also the retired headteacher of James Allen's Girls' School, an independent school in Dulwich. Marion received a CBE in 2012 for her partnership work between the state and independent sectors across South London, including the Southwark Schools Learning Partnership which she founded in 2003 for 10 Southwark secondary schools and which still flourishes today. She is currently also a Trustee of Classics for All and the Charleston Trust.

JOHN GODFREY -  CHAIR OF TRUSTEES AND MEMBER (ex-officio)

 

John was the Chair of Governors for The Charter School East Dulwich until November 2019. He is a consultant for data and technology companies helping them innovate and grow. John has lived in Dulwich all his life. He grew up in a home opposite The Charter School North Dulwich and is the parent of a child at The Charter School East Dulwich. John’s teaching degree and interest in education led to becoming a founder proposer of The Charter School East Dulwich, and he now works with the New Schools Network.

KIERAN OSBORNE - CEO

Kieran Osborne is CEO of The Charter Schools Educational Trust. Previous to this he had been the Trust’s Educational Advisor.

He is also CEO of the Impact Trust in Bromley which also, at present, has two secondary schools. He was Principal of Hayes School from 2004-16. Hayes was his third Headship.

Kieran is a National Leader of Education. He is a senior partner of a number of school led partnerships and Chair of Challenge Partners. He has previously been Chair of the London and National Chairs of Headteachers and a Director of the Bromley SCITT which trains and accredits over 130 teachers a year.

For the last eight years Kieran has worked for the National College and DFE as a Teaching and Leadership Adviser. He has and continues to work with many schools and Trusts as an Educational Consultant and School Improvement Partner. He is committed to schools working together to achieve continuous improvement for all the pupils in their care.

EMMANUEL AMADI MVO  – VICE CHAIR OF TRUSTEES AND MEMBER

Manny is a trusted adviser to some of the world's foremost companies and NGOs. He has been a consultancy leader for over ten years, following his earlier careers in the business and NGO sectors. He maintains a deep commitment to community and societal issues and has been directly involved with The Charter School as both a parent and a governor for the past ten years.

Manny was a part of the team which successfully bid for the opening of The Charter School East Dulwich in 2015.

AMANDA KING – TRUSTEE & CHAIR OF GOVERNORS TCSND 

Amanda was appointed Chair of the Local Governing Body of The Charter School North Dulwich in July 2019 after serving as vice-chair since 2016. She believes in the importance of inclusive education as a driver for equality of opportunity and aspiration amongst young people. She is an arts consultant for the public sector working with organisations such as the Tate and the National Gallery.

KATE CHHATWAL - TRUSTEE

Dr Kate Chhatwal lives locally and has been a TCSET trustee since 2018. Kate’s day job is Chief Executive of Challenge Partners, a school improvement charity working with over 500 primary, secondary and special schools across England.

Her previous roles include Executive Director at Southwark Teaching School Alliance, and Chief Programme Officer at education leadership development charity The Future Leaders Trust. Kate also spent over a decade at the Department for Education. She holds a PhD in education policy from the European University Institute.

Kate is also a trustee at STEP Academy Trust, and Co-Founder and Vice Chair of the Leading Women's Alliance.

SIMON TUCKER – TRUSTEE 

Simon works with governments and charities on innovation and new ventures. He is passionate about helping every child develop the attitudes, skills and knowledge to thrive as an adult. He has a child at the Charter School East Dulwich and was part of the group that set up the Charter School East Dulwich. 

Simon was Chair of Governors and link governor for Leadership and Management at The Charter School East Dulwich until his appointment as Chair of Trustees in September 2018

DAVID GALLIE – TRUSTEE

David is the Greater London Authority’s Assistant Director of Finance, leading on the preparation of the Mayor of London’s £16bn budget for police, transport, fire and the Mayor’s Development Corporations. He is also responsible for the GLA’s investments of £2.5bn and borrowings of £4.5bn.

Previously he worked in senior finance positions at three London Boroughs, including running a local authority’s support functions for schools, including its education finance function.

David was Chair of Governors of the Charter School North Dulwich throughout most of the last decade and is also a non-Executive Director on the Elliott Foundation Multi-Academy Trust.

HELEN JEFFREY – TRUSTEE 

Helen has had a long career as a senior government lawyer advising departments including the Department for Education and the Department for Work and Pensions.

She was part of the parents group that campaigned for The Charter School North Dulwich and a member of the temporary governing body before the school opened in 2000. She served for many years as a governor of the school before it became an Academy and then as a member and trustee of the Academy Trust.

As a local resident and parent of two former pupils of The Charter School North Dulwich she has a long-standing personal commitment to ensuring the provision of excellent, inclusive local education.

Steven is a partner in PwC's restructuring practice, with nineteen years of experience in corporate change management, specialising in advising companies in turnaround situations.

CHRISTIAN HICKS – HEADTEACHER THE CHARTER SCHOOL NORTH DULWICH 

Christian has been the Headteacher of The Charter School North Dulwich since September 2013. Responsible for leading the school’s 1200 students and 150 staff, he is passionate about the pursuit of excellence within an inclusive community school, in order to improve the life chances of all students. He is committed to taking The Charter School North Dulwich from being one of the best state schools in London to being one of the best in the country. After a brief career in finance, Christian trained to become an English teacher before progressing into school leadership as part of the Future Leaders programme.

ALEX CROSSMAN – HEADTEACHER THE CHARTER SCHOOL EAST DULWICH

Alex is the Headteacher of The Charter School East Dulwich which serves the communities of East Dulwich, Camberwell and Peckham. Dedicated to the proposition that education can transform young people's life opportunities, he is responsible for a rapidly growing, new school which opened its doors to students in September 2016. The Charter School East Dulwich moved into its brand new, state of the art building in January 2019 from their temporary home in Peckham.

Alex moved into teaching and school leadership after participating in the Future Leader programme following a successful career in finance.
