Autism Resource Base - Community Consultation
January 10, 2023

Thank you to everyone who shared their views on the proposal for the opening of The Grove Autism Resource Base (ARB) at The Charter School East Dulwich.

Overwhelmingly, responses have been extremely positive in support of the proposal which is excellent and very exciting. In addition, your detailed feedback and questions have been extremely helpful in clarifying and challenging our thinking about the development. With so many responses, it is not possible to respond to each one individually so we have created a list of FAQs and answers which can be downloaded below.

This resource base will offer 25 places (five per year groups 7-11)

Students who attend the Autism Resource Base will receive a blend of learning opportunities in both the main school and the base. The curriculum will be customised to students’ specific needs as outlined in their EHCP and will aim to help them develop their learning skills and participate in as much mainstream classroom learning as possible.

There is a great need for more additionally resourced provisions and special schools in Southwark that can offer specialised and personalised approaches to learning for many children and young people. We are excited to work with Southwark Council to provide valuable opportunities and a school environment that can transform young lives.

The Autism Resource Base will be located in the newly refurbished and purpose built chateau building on East Dulwich Grove (the old East Dulwich Hospital Building). It will also be the site for the sixth-form study spaces, music department, and school administration. The resource base will have a range of learning spaces designed for small group work, class-based learning, and flexible multi-use spaces, all tailored to the needs of the students attending.

We have extended the consultation window by another 7 days (closing 18:00 30/1/23). If you have any further comments or questions regarding the proposal following this additional information, please use the link here to let us know anything you would like us to consider.
